EDMONTON SENDS CECI TO SAN JOSE
The San Jose Sharks acquired defenseman Cody Ceci and a third-round draft pick in 2025 from the Edmonton Oilers for defenseman Ty Emberson.
What does it give the San Jose Sharks
For the Sharks, this trade is as much about the player as it is about the draft pick. Ceci is an 11-year NHL veteran who should help stabilize the blueline and provide experience on a young team. The third-round draft pick was added for taking on Ceci's salary for this season before he becomes a UFA. The Sharks will use that to continue adding youth to their rebuilding plan.
What does it give the Edmonton Oilers
It seems like the Oilers got off the hook rather easily here. Knowing they had to move salary to match offer sheets for both Philip Broberg and Dylan Holloway, it is a little surprising the Sharks did not ask for a higher pick. Edmonton also receives Emberson, who is known more for his defense and could fill a depth role. Edmonton could also bury his full salary in the AHL.
Fantasy impact
Both players in this deal are more defensive in nature, so neither of them offer much fantasy value.
