The Edmonton Oilers acquired defenseman Paul Fischer and a third-round draft pick in 2028 from the St. Louis Blues for future considerations.

What does it give the Edmonton Oilers
Perhaps the Oilers contacted the Blues and warned them that they could match the RFA offers for both Philip Broberg and Dylan Holloway without some compensation in return. If that is the case, then did Edmonton get enough compensation here?

What does it give the St. Louis Blues
Another possibility is that the Blues decided to send Edmonton some form of compensation as a peace offering after signing both Broberg and Holloway as restricted free agents last week. Either way, do not expect St. Louis to get anything in return here.

Fantasy impact
Fischer is a decent blueline prospect, but he seemed stuck behind several other left-shooting rearguards in the Blues organization. Therefore, he might be better off with the Oilers, though he could take a few more seasons to reach the NHL. He does not need to be drafted at present time.
