OILERS, FLYERS MAKE MINOR TRADE
The Edmonton Oilers acquired defenseman Ronnie Attard from the Philadelphia Flyers for defenseman Ben Gleason.
What does it give the Edmonton Oilers
This is a swap of AHL defensemen, but Attard could be closer to seeing some time in the big league this season. He is a right-shooting blueliner who was at one point considered a pretty solid NHL prospect. There may be an opportunity in Edmonton.
What does it give the Philadelphia Flyers
Gleason is more of a journeyman defenseman who is likely going to remain in the AHL (now with Lehigh Valley) for the foreseeable future. As for Attard, it is obvious he needed a change of scenery after failing to impress in training camp.
Fantasy impact
There is no fantasy impact here. That said, keep an eye on Attard with the AHL's Bakersfield Condors, Edmonton's top affiliate.
