LARS ELLER RETURNS TO WASHINGTON
The Washington Capitals acquired center Lars Eller from the Pittsburgh Penguins for a fifth-round draft pick in 2025 and a third-round draft pick in 2027.
What does it give the Washington Capitals
These must be strange times when rivals such as the Capitals and Penguins hook up for a trade! In Eller, the Caps are bringing back a familiar face who was a pivotal member of their 2018 Stanley Cup triumph. Expect Eller to slide into the No. 3 center role in D.C., a role he is most adept at.
What does it give the Pittsburgh Penguins
For Pittsburgh, a team struggling to find the right balance between staying competitive in the twilight years of their superstars' careers and getting younger and better for the future, this trade does make sense. The two draft picks are pretty good value for a pending UFA center who turns 36 in May.
Fantasy impact
Eller was off a pretty good start this season, despite Pittsburgh's struggles. However, he might not get as much ice time in Washington. His role will be far more defined and probably more geared towards defense and killing penalties. This would be a good time to sell high on Eller in many fantasy leagues.
