KAKKO SENT TO SEATTLE
The Seattle Kraken acquired winger Kaapo Kakko from the New York Rangers for defenseman Will Borgen, a third-round draft pick in 2025 and a sixth-round draft pick in 2025.
What does it give the Seattle Kraken
The Kraken have been struggling to find consistency this season, so changes were inevitable. Adding Kakko should help Seattle, especially since he still has untapped offensive upside. It is now up to Dan Bylsma and the Kraken coaching staff to get the best out of the Finnish winger.
What does it give the New York Rangers
For the Rangers, the shakeup continues. There could be more moves to come. For now, adding Borgen could help stabilize the blueline (following the recent trade of Jacob Trouba to Anaheim). Borgen is a steady performer, which is exactly what New York needs right about now.
Fantasy impact
Kakko might be worth picking up, but it may take him some time before he finds his niche with Seattle. The Kraken are likely to move out a forward or two after this move, so Kakko should only be added for those with room on the fantasy roster. He is also a decent keeper option in deeper leagues. As for Borgen, his value is mostly to his NHL squad (and not fantasy owners).
