REILLY SMITH SENT BACK TO VEGAS
The Vegas Golden Knights acquired winger Reilly Smith from the New York Rangers for forward Brendan Brisson and a third-round draft pick in 2025.
What does it give the Vegas Golden Knights
The return of the prodigal son! The Golden Knights are getting back a key component to their two trips to the Stanley Cup Final. Smith should help Vegas, but he is more of a role player these days. He adds valuable depth on either wing.
What does it give the New York Rangers
For whatever reason, Smith never seemed like a good fit in New York. In fact, he struggled in Pittsburgh last season, as well. The Blueshirts did well to get back a third-rounder in this year's draft, plus a marginal forward prospect in Brisson.
Fantasy impact
Smith is no longer an automatic roster player in some fantasy leagues, but a trade back to Vegas should boost his value. Pick him up if available and hope for the best. Brisson is not on the fantasy radar for the time being. He first needs to prove he can crack an NHL lineup on a regular basis.
