OILERS ADD DEFENSEMAN WALMAN

The Edmonton Oilers acquired defenseman Jake Walman from the San Jose Sharks for forward Carl Berglund and a conditional first-round draft pick in 2026.

What does it give the Edmonton Oilers
The Oilers have been reeling for some time now, so adding a solid defenseman in Walman should help them. They have Stanley Cup aspirations this season, but the roster does not seem to be good enough at present time. That said, the blueline should be improved now that Walman is in tow.

What does it give the San Jose Sharks
For the Sharks, trading Walman here makes sense because of their current rebuilding situation. There were able to secure a first-rounder for a player they essentially got for nothing from Detroit. In fact, the Red Wings gave San Jose a draft pick to take him off their hands! Great move by Sharks GM Mike Grier.

Fantasy impact
Walman's fantasy value should be improved moving from San Jose to Edmonton, especially his plus/minus rating. He will likely see fewer minutes, though. Still, playing with Connor McDavid and Leon Draisaitl will boost his points total. As for Berglund, he is not a prospect and will likely remain in the AHL for the foreseeable future.
