ZETTERLUND ON THE MOVE TO OTTAWA
The Ottawa Senators acquired winger Fabian Zetterlund, forward Tristen Robins and a fourth-round draft pick in 2025 from the San Jose Sharks for forward Zack Ostapchuk, winger Noah Gregor and a second-round draft pick in 2025.
What does it give the Ottawa Senators
The Senators pick up a quality middle-six winger in Zetterlund. The 25-year-old has produced well the past few seasons, and he is an immediate upgrade for Ottawa up front. He will be an RFA after the season and could become an important longer-term piece. In addition, Robins will add to the organization's forward depth. A prospect, he has spent the past few seasons in the AHL and will continue developing there for now. The Senators also got back a lower draft pick while giving up a second-rounder in the deal.
What does it give the San Jose Sharks
With the Sharks still a ways away from contention, they elected to get younger with the addition of Ostapchuk. While he has not been very productive in his rookie season (4 points in 43 games), he still has a lot of promise and the size to be an impact player. As for Gregor, he will likely slot into a bottom-six role. The trade also allowed San Jose to move up in the draft, which will help with their ongoing rebuild.
Fantasy impact
In fantasy leagues, Zetterlund should be the biggest winner from this trade. He will now play alongside more established talent, which should mean an uptick in his offense. The other trio involved in the deal are not fantasy contributors at the moment, but Ostapchuk could be worth a look if he finishes the year with the Sharks. He certainly has potential for the near future.
