The Montreal Canadiens acquired center Jim Dowd from the Minnesota Wild for a fourth-round draft pick in 2004

What does it give the Montreal Canadiens
The Canadiens needed a right-handed center, so Dowd should help matters for the rest of the season and in the playoffs. He'll likely take over as the team's third-line center from Joe Juneau, whose play has been in steady decline all season.

What does it give the Minnesota Wild
Dowd was a favorite of Wild coach Jacques Lemaire but this move will force the club to start looking ahead towards the future. With Mikko Koivu set to make his Minnesota debut next season, Dowd was deemed expendable. The fourth-round pick added in the deal is a bonus.
