COMMODORE TO CAROLINA
The Carolina Hurricanes acquired defenseman Mike Commodore from the Calgary Flames for a third-round draft pick in 2005.
What does it give the Carolina Hurricanes
Commodore should be a serviceable blueliner for the Hurricanes, especially because he's a right-handed shot. He'll see far more ice time in Carolina but won't make an impact. He adds more toughness and a great attitude, but don't look for a lot of offense.
What does it give the Calgary Flames
An outstanding trade for the Flames, since they received a quality draft pick (No. 69 overall) for a spare part. Commodore wasn't going to crack Calgary's top six defenders in 2005-06, since rookie Dion Phaneuf is ready to make an impact. Therefore, GM/coach Darryl Sutter received full value for his extra defenseman. Kudos to Sutter.
