DEVILS GET WIEMER

The New Jersey Devils acquired forward Jason Wiemer from the Calgary Flames for a fourth-round draft pick in 2006.

What does it give the New Jersey Devils
The Devils will use Wiemer in a fourth-line role. He should fit in well under Lou Lamoriello, but he will do nothing to help the Devils in the scoring department. Adding to Wiemer's value, he can line up either at center or left wing. He's an upgrade over Erik Rasmussen, Darren Langdon and rookies Cam Janssen and Jason Ryznar, but that's about it.

What does it give the Calgary Flames
The Flames needed a roster spot due to the acquisition of Jamie Lundmark, so they chose to part with Wiemer--who spent a lot of time as a healthy scratch this season. Calgary didn't need the extra grit Wiemer provides, but they do need more scoring. Therefore, it was a good idea to essentially replace Wiemer with Lundmark. The fourth rounder is gravy at this point.
