JACKETS GET A GOALIE
The Columbus Blue Jackets acquired goaltender Kevin Lalande from the Calgary Flames for a fourth-round draft pick in 2009.
What does it give the Columbus Blue Jackets
Lalande has only played six games this season for the Flames' AHL squad at Quad City, but he was impressive in those six appearances (going 4-1-1 with a shutout, a 1.94 GAA, and a .929 save percentage). Maybe that was enough to catch the eye of the Jackets, who now have a spot to fill somewhere in their organizational goalie depth chart after trading former starter Pascal Leclaire to Ottawa.
What does it give the Calgary Flames
Calgary has good organizational depth in net behind star Miikka Kiprusoff, including current young Kipper backup Craig McElhinney and AHLers Leland Irving and Matt Keetley. Having four promising young goalies playing at the AHL level or higher was an obvious logjam, so adding a solid pick for Lalande is a nice manoeuver by the Flames.
