JOKINEN BROADWAY BOUND

The New York Rangers acquired center Olli Jokinen and forward Brandon Prust from the Calgary Flames for wingers Ales Kotalik and Christopher Higgins.

What does it give the New York Rangers
The Rangers get a center with size and the ability to score in Jokinen, though he has been a chronic underachiever of late. He is on an expiring contract, so the Rangers are taking a calculated risk here. Prust should provide some of the toughness that had been lacking in the Rangers lineup.

What does it give the Calgary Flames
Kotalik has a big shot, which he can use on the point of the power play. That could become critical now that the Flames have traded away Dion Phaneuf. Higgins has been unable to regain his lost scoring touch for a couple of seasons (and teams) now, so maybe a fresh start in Calgary will help.
