Boyd is a quality talent who is still young (23) and still has solid upside. A change of scenery might be exactly what he needs to get his career going, and the Preds need his depth up front to jump-start their offense for the playoff push.
What does it give the Calgary Flames
Calgary has done a solid job of adding forward depth in recent weeks with several deals, and those along with Boyd's underachieving ways made him somewhat expendable. The fourth-rounder isn't great compensation for him but at least they can add another prospect thanks to the pick.
