The Carolina Hurricanes acquired winger Tuomo Ruutu from the Chicago Blackhawks for winger Andrew Ladd.

Ruutu is a feisty competitor whose offensive ability has been on the wane for a while. Recently, he had been skating on Chicago's fourth line so a change of scenery was in the offing. He should add a little more offense to a Carolina club that is battling injuries up front.
What does it give the Chicago Blackhawks
Ladd has had a rebirth in recent weeks playing his off-wing (left) with Rod Brind'Amour and Sergei Samsonov, but was generally a disappointment in Carolina. He joins an equally offensive club so he'll have to fight hard for top-six minutes.
