BRUINS-HAWKS MAKE A SWAP

The Boston Bruins acquired center Martin St. Pierre from the Chicago Blackhawks for forward Pascal Pelletier.

What does it give the Boston Bruins
St. Pierre has size issues but has been dominant at times in junior and the AHL and may finally be ready for a legitimate shot in the NHL. He's a scrappy playmaker with great hands and, while his few NHL auditions haven't amounted to much, the soon-to-be-25-year-old might be ready to contribute (especially since the Bruins have so many question marks at center). He certainly has the skill to eventually succeed if the rest of his game holds up.

What does it give the Chicago Blackhawks
In Pelletier the Blackhawks acquire a proven 25-year-old AHL forward (in return for a proven AHL forward in St. Pierre). But in Pelletier they get a little more two-way potential, which might eventually help on their lower lines. Chicago is already loaded with young offensive forwards, so a proven defender like Pelletier (who can also score) is a nice depth addition.
