WINGS SEND RIVERS TO PHOENIX

The Phoenix Coyotes acquired defenseman Jamie Rivers from the Detroit Red Wings for a seventh-round draft pick in 2006.

What does it give the Phoenix Coyotes
The Coyotes add back some of the defensive depth they lost in previous deals. Rivers won't be a big performer in Phoenix, but he should see more ice time than he received in Detroit.

What does it give the Detroit Red Wings
The Red Wings moved a spare part in order to free up a little salary-cap space. This may be a precursor to another deal before the deadline... or perhaps in the off-season.
