The Rangers get a solid depth forward in Newbury who can bring some grit to their lower lines if needed. The fact his contract expires after this season is also a bonus flexibility-wise for the Rangers for the off-season.
What does it give the Detroit Red Wings
Owens hasn't exactly been on fire this season playing in the AHL but the Wings at least get an intriguing forward in return for Newbury, who they risked losing via free agency over the summer. They obviously see something they like in Owens, who has had promising moments in both his junior career and in the AHL last season.
