TARNSTROM FOR GLENCROSS

The Columbus Blue Jackets acquired defenseman Dick Tarnstrom from the Edmonton Oilers for winger Curtis Glencross.

What does it give the Columbus Blue Jackets
The Jackets will likely use Tarnstrom on the power play, so he might be a solid addition in their quest to reach the postseason for the first time in franchise history. He essentially replaces Duvie Westcott, who was waived recently. Glencross had become expendable due to the team's return to good health up front, as well as the solid play of Andrew Murray.

What does it give the Edmonton Oilers
Tarnstrom was seventh or eighth on the depth chart in Edmonton, since most of the club's defensemen are now healthy. He was deemed expendable in part because of the strong play of Tom Gilbert and Ladislav Smid this year. Therefore, the Oilers will take a flyer on Glencross, who can help fill in for the injured Raffi Torres at left wing.
