The Philadelphia Flyers acquired defenseman Danny Syvret from the Edmonton Oilers for center Ryan Potulny.
What does it give the Philadelphia Flyers
Syvret is a puck-moving defenseman, something the Flyers need more of. He should get more of an opportunity with Philadelphia, and may even emerge as a member of a power-play unit down the road. Since Potulny's best position is center, he wasn't going to get a break in Philly.
What does it give the Edmonton Oilers
Potulny could get a chance to play as a bottom-six forward in Edmonton, but he faces an uphill battle to become a scorer with the Oilers. That said, he adds depth at a position Edmonton isn't particularly strong.
