PREDATORS ADD GREBESHKOV

The Nashville Predators acquired defenseman Denis Grebeshkov from the Edmonton Oilers for a second-round draft pick in 2010.

What does it give the Nashville Predators
The Predators are expected to move potential unrestricted free agent Dan Hamhuis before the deadline, so adding another blue-liner in Grebeshkov makes sense. Grebeshkov makes a little more than Hamhuis, but is a potential restricted free agent on July 1. Therefore, the Preds must feel more confident in their ability to re-sign Grebeshkov than Hamhuis.

What does it give the Edmonton Oilers
The Oilers are looking to move out several players before the deadline. They would prefer to move veteran players with term left on their contracts, such as Sheldon Souray, Steve Staios, Ethan Moreau and Shawn Horcoff. However, there hasn't been much interest in any of the four. Moving Grebeshkov is a start, at least.
