The Colorado Avalanche acquired defenseman Shawn Belle from the Edmonton Oilers for defenseman Kevin Montgomery.
What does it give the Colorado Avalanche
Belle has a bit more NHL experience than Montgomery, but clearly this is an AHL move involving two minor-league defensemen. Belle has great talent but he just has never been able to put it all together at the highest level.
What does it give the Edmonton Oilers
Montgomery will move on to Oklahoma City as Belle's replacement, but don't expect him to see much NHL action with the rebuilding Oilers for the rest of the season. It's a straight-up AHL deal involving players of the same position.
