VALERI BURE TO DALLAS
The Dallas Stars acquired right wing Valeri Bure from the Florida Panthers for defenseman Drew Bagnall and a 2004 compensatory draft pick.
What does it give the Dallas Stars
Bure will be a significant upgrade at right wing for Dallas, profided he passes a physical. He'll probably slide into the No. 2 role behind Bill Guerin, taking over for the injured Scott Young. He'll either receive passes from captain Mike Modano or Pierre Turgeon--who played with Bure in Montreal in the mid-90's.
What does it give the Florida Panthers
The Panthers are going with youth, and have enough forwards to make due without Bure. Bagnall adds more defensive depth in the system but is probably more of a long-term prospect. The draft pick will be a compensation pick between rounds 1 and 2--Dallas acquired the selection when Derian Hatcher left for Detroit last summer.
