HORDICHUK TO NASHVILLE
The Nashville Predators acquired winger Darcy Hordichuk from the Florida Panthers for a fourth-round draft pick in 2005.
What does it give the Nashville Predators
Curiously, the Predators began their off-season makeover by adding an enforcer. While Hordichuk is a quality NHL pugilist and willing combatant, surrendering a fourth-round pick in this year's draft appears to be overpayment by GM David Poile. Obviously, Hordichuk will replace Jim McKenzie and Cam Severson as the main enforcer in Nashville.
What does it give the Florida Panthers
In Mike Keenan's first move as Florida GM, he adds value in a fourth-round draft pick in exchange for a spare enforcer. The addition last summer of Eric Cairns made Hordichuk expendable. When Keenan, a notorious proponent of the pugilistic aspect of hockey, trades away an enforcer, it's probably because he was given an offer he couldn't refuse.
