DVORAK TO ATLANTA

The Atlanta Thrashers acquired right winger Radek Dvorak and a fifth-round pick in the 2011 draft from the Florida Panthers for wingers Niclas Bergfors and Patrick Rissmiller.

What does it give the Atlanta Thrashers
Dvorak is a solid two-way winger with plenty of experience for the playoffs...where the Thrashers still want to get to. This move is somewhat of a statement by GM Rick Dudley. Despite Atlanta's big swoon, they are desperately hoping to make it into the postseason dance. Dvorak will help with that. His game should suit coach Craig Ramsay's system like a glove, unlike the departing Bergfors. Since Dvorak is a pending UFA, Dudley protected himself by adding a fifth rounder to complete this trade.

What does it give the Florida Panthers
Bergfors has goal-scoring acumen, which is something the Panthers need more of. Dvorak wasn't part of the team's long-range plans, so they did well to add a winger with far more scoring prowess. Rissmiller was simply a salary dump by Atlanta, so the Panthers accepted him as part of the package in order to get this offensive upgrade for the future.
