BLACKHAWKS LAND GOALIE KARLSSON
The Chicago Blackhawks acquired Henrik Karlsson from the Calgary Flames for a seventh-round draft pick in 2013.
What does it give the Chicago Blackhawks
The Blackhawks land some depth in goal with Karlsson, who failed to secure a backup role in Calgary. He'll play in Rockford (AHL) and may wind up as the organization's third stringer this season. It's likely his last stint in North America, as Karlsson is expected to return to Europe in 2013-14.
What does it give the Calgary Flames
The Flames will probably use starter {P Miikka Kiprusoff} in all but a few of the 48 games scheduled this season, so their backup won't be very busy at all. For now, that job belongs to {P Leland Irving}. With a strong duo in the AHL, the Flames didn't have room (or interest) for Karlsson to play down on the farm.
Fantasy impact
Karlsson won't have any fantasy value in Chicago, and he's unlikely to see time in the NHL. In fact, he's likely done in North America after this season.
