DEVILS REACQUIRE PONIKAROVSKY

The New Jersey Devils acquired winger Alexei Ponikarovsky from the Winnipeg Jets for a seventh-round draft pick in 2013 and a fourth-round draft pick in 2014.

What does it give the New Jersey Devils
The Devils obviously like veteran Ponikarovsky, a strong forechecker with good defensive instincts but modest offensive ability. They traded for 'Poni' last season, as well, and he went on to contribute to the team's run to the Stanley Cup finals. This year, Ponikarovsky will help replace the injured {P Dainius Zubrus} (wrist surgery), who was recently placed on injured reserve.

What does it give the Winnipeg Jets
The Jets acquired big winger {P Eric Tangradi} from the Penguins prior to dealing Ponikarovsky away, so they needed the roster space. Clearly, the Jets are hoping Tangradi provides more offense than what Ponikarovsky is capable of, though Winnipeg is sacrificing defense and veteran stability here. Still, the Jets landed two picks for veteran Ponikarovsky, so it's a good deal.

Fantasy impact
Ponikarovsky is familiar with the Devils, so he may see a little spike in production and fantasy value in New Jersey. That said, it won't be enough to land squarely on the fantasy radar (unless it's in a very deep league).
