SHARKS LAND RUGGED VETERAN TORRES
The San Jose Sharks acquired winger Raffi Torres from the Phoenix Coyotes for a third-round draft pick in 2013.
What does it give the San Jose Sharks
After dealing away a lot of size and toughness in recent moves, the Sharks felt the need to get some of that lost physicality back. Enter Torres, who should help the Sharks in their quest to go deep in the playoffs this spring. He should play a bottom-six winger role for the rest of the season. He has made an impact on teams in the past, especially in the playoffs, but he may not play the same rambunctious style of years gone by.
What does it give the Phoenix Coyotes
Landing a third rounder is a very good pickup for the Coyotes...regardless of their off-ice situation. The Coyotes decided to be sellers here, so this asset could be a solid piece for the future. Torres could be replaced internally with the likes of {P Kyle Chipchura} and {P Rob Klinkhammer}, who have both seen decent minutes lately.
Fantasy impact
Torres should see a little spike in overall fantasy numbers, especially penalty minutes. That said, he probably won't make an offensive impact (ever again).
