STARS ACQUIRE HORCOFF FROM EDMONTON

The Dallas Stars acquired center Shawn Horcoff from the Edmonton Oilers for defenseman Philip Larsen and a seventh-round draft pick in 2016.

What does it give the Dallas Stars
The Stars have completely reshaped their center situation in one day. After acquiring {P Tyler Seguin} and {P Rich Peverley} (who can both play center and wing) earlier, Dallas now adds veteran Horcoff to the mix. He's not in his prime but the veteran former Oilers captain may help round out the team down the middle. The Stars had the cap space for Horcoff, so they wound up getting him for relatively little in trade.

What does it give the Edmonton Oilers
The Oilers are clearly revamping their center situation. After waiving veteran {P Eric Belanger} for the purpose of using a compliance buyout on him, Edmonton now moved out their captain. It's a clear indicator the Oil want to re-sign {P Sam Gagner} and incorporate him into the team's long-range plans. In Larsen, the Oilers land a puck mover with a chance to play more in Edmonton than he did in Texas. The pick is well down the road.

Fantasy impact
Horcoff's fantasy value should remain the same but he might get a fresh start (he ONLY played for Edmonton prior to the deal). Larsen could also get a spike in value if he's able to carve out a niche along the Oilers blueline.
