FLAMES LAND TOUGH GUY MacDERMID
The Calgary Flames acquired winger Lane MacDermid from the Dallas Stars for a sixth-round draft pick in 2014.
What does it give the Calgary Flames
The Flames recently dealt away fellow tough guy {P Tim Jackman} to Anaheim for the same return, so this is a move is essentially Jackman for MacDermid. The latter recently cleared waivers, so Calgary could decide to send him down to the AHL without having to place him back on waivers. MacDermid is a willing combatant and tough player to line up against...which is exactly what new President of Hockey Operations Brian Burke prefers.
What does it give the Dallas Stars
The Stars recently waived MacDermid, and planned on sending him down to the AHL upon {P Ray Whitney}'s return from injured reserve. Instead, they get a future asset for him, so this appears to be a win-win situation. MacDermid didn't get much of an opportunity to play in Dallas, as fourth liners such as {P Antoine Roussel} and {P Ryan Garbutt} were ahead of him on the depth chart. Therefore, GM Jim Nill did well to get an asset for him.
Fantasy impact
MacDermid could become a source for penalty minutes, but he's not expected to play enough in Calgary to be a fantasy factor.
