LaBARBERA GOES TO CHICAGO AS INSURANCE

The Chicago Blackhawks acquired goaltender Jason LaBarbera from the Edmonton Oilers for future considerations.

What does it give the Chicago Blackhawks
With both starter {P Corey Crawford} and backup {P Nikolai Khabibulin} out of action due to lower body injuries, the Blackhawks felt they needed to add a little short-term depth between the pipes. Enter LaBarbera, who has struggled mightily in Edmonton this season and isn't likely to see much action in Chicago.

What does it give the Edmonton Oilers
The Oilers no longer required LaBarbera's services, as they'll go forward with {P Ilya Bryzgalov} and {P Devan Dubnyk}, with {P Richard Bachman} acting as the third stringer. Therefore, they shed LaBarbera's salary here and aren't expected to get much back in return. This move was made simply to alleviate a logjam.

Fantasy impact
LaBarbera's value would go up as a Blackhawk if he saw game action, but {P Antti Raanta} is expected to play most of the time until Crawford returns from injury. LaBarbera is still to be avoided in fantasy circles.
