NICK SCHULTZ TRADED TO COLUMBUS

The Columbus Blue Jackets acquired defenseman Nick Schultz from the Edmonton Oilers for a fifth-round draft pick in 2014.

What does it give the Columbus Blue Jackets
This deal gives the Jackets some blueline insurance, as injuries--especially to Russian veteran {P Fedor Tyutin} have hurt Columbus lately. Schultz is strictly a stay-at-home, bottom-pairing blueliner but he has experience and is a fairly safe acquisition at this point.

What does it give the Edmonton Oilers
The Oilers need to make room for some of their young defensemen, especially {P Oscar Klefbom}, so moving out potential UFA Schultz makes a lot of sense at this time. The return wasn't great, but it's still a good move for a low-impact performer (albeit a solid citizen).

Fantasy impact
There is virtually no fantasy impact to speak of here, as Schultz is a defensive defenseman and the fifth rounder isn't likely to yield a frontline player for Edmonton.
