BRUINS ADD SLOVAKIAN D-MAN MESZAROS
The Boston Bruins acquired defenseman Andrej Meszaros from the Philadelphia Flyers for a third-round draft pick in 2014.
What does it give the Boston Bruins
The Bruins needed another veteran rearguard in the wake of the season-ending injury to {P Dennis Seidenberg}, so adding Meszaros makes sense here. Also, he and countryman {P Zdeno Chara} played together at the 2014 Winter Olympics, so that might be a good fit on the ice. The price was a bit high for a potential UFA rental here, but the Bruins are a definite Stanley Cup contender. Therefore, GM {B Peter Chiarelli} is willing to pay that price.
What does it give the Philadelphia Flyers
Meszaros became expendable after the Flyers acquired {P Andrew MacDonald} from the New York Islanders earlier in the week, so they did well here to land a third rounder for a player they no longer needed (and someone who was likely to leave via unrestricted free agency on July 1 anyway). Good deal for Philadelphia here.
Fantasy impact
Meszaros could see a bit of a fantasy spike as long as he's with the Bruins, but his long-range value is up for grabs now...because he is likely to move on once again this summer.
