HAVELID FOR FOSTER
The Atlanta Thrashers acquired defenseman Niclas Havelid from the Mighty Ducks of Anaheim for defenseman Kurtis Foster.
What does it give the Atlanta Thrashers
For the Thrashers, Havelid provides more experience and mobility along their blueline. While he's not the No. 1 rearguard Atlanta still needs, the veteran Swede should be an upgrade for the franchise. The Thrashers hope Havelid will rediscover his 2003 playoff form.
What does it give the Anaheim Ducks
The Ducks are trimming costs wherever they can these days, so adding a decent (and huge!) defensive prospect in Foster by dumping Havelid's salary is a bonus. Foster may even get a chance to compete for a spot on the opening night lineup in 2004-05. Furthermore, he's a right-handed shot for the Anaheim blueline, something the team has lacked in recent years.
