LECLERC TO PHOENIX
The Phoenix Coyotes acquired left wing Mike Leclerc from the Mighty Ducks of Anaheim for a conditional draft pick in 2007.
What does it give the Phoenix Coyotes
The Coyotes already had Ladislav Nagy and promising newcomers Oleg Saprykin and Jason Chimera on the port side, but Leclerc gives them another veteran physical presence for their top two scoring lines. Leclerc had knee surgery in 2004, and struggled to return to form upon his return. If healty, he should help an already deep Phoenix attack.
What does it give the Anaheim Ducks
After adding Teemu Selanne, the Ducks needed to dump a salary--which led to the Leclerc deal. With Stanislav Chistov also not expected to return to Anaheim this season, the Ducks are suddenly a little thin on the port side. Therefore, either Brian Burke isn't done tinkering or one of the club's right-wingers will convert to the other side of the ice.
