DUCKS ADD NEEDED DEFENSE WITH BREWER
The Anaheim Ducks acquired defenseman Eric Brewer from the Tampa Bay Lightning for a third-round draft pick in 2015.
What does it give the Anaheim Ducks
Anaheim, a top contender in the Western Conference, is currently severely banged up along their blueline, so they felt the need to bring in a veteran support player. Enter Brewer, who wasn't being used much by Tampa Bay this season but has 16 NHL seasons under his belt to fall back on. He'll play regularly (for now) and might be a good fit in the short term.
What does it give the Tampa Bay Lightning
Lightning GM Steve Yzerman did incredibly well here to trade away his No. 8 defenseman for an early pick in what is expected to be an outstanding draft (2015). The pick was originally Edmonton's, so it should be an early third rounder. Tampa is getting back No. 1 defenseman {P Victor Hedman} (fractured finger), so this deal is a win-win situation for the Bolts.
Fantasy impact
Brewer doesn't have much fantasy value anymore, regardless of the NHL club he plays on. His presence in Anaheim should take ice time away from youngsters {P Jesse Blacker}, {P Mat Clark} and perhaps even {P Josh Manson}, however.
