FEDORUK TO PHILLY

The Philadelphia Flyers acquired winger Todd Fedoruk from the Anaheim Ducks for a fourth-round draft pick in 2007 and future considerations.

What does it give the Philadelphia Flyers
This is a puzzling move for a Flyers team that's going nowhere fast. The return of Fedoruk adds more grit to the Flyers, but their problems this season go well beyond a lack of toughness. Furthermore, new GM Paul Holmgren shouldn't be giving up future assets right now--especially if he wants to keep the job beyond this season. This isn't a good way to start your new career as general manager of a struggling franchise.

What does it give the Anaheim Ducks
Fedoruk may never be the same player again, following a gruesome fight with Minnesota's Derek Boogaard that left him with a mangled face. The Ducks have replace Fedoruk with Shawn Thornton since the injury and haven't really missed a beat. Therefore, GM Brian Burke once again did well to add more future assets for an expendable winger. In this deal, Burke also acquired the conditional right to exchange fifth-round draft picks in 2007 with Philadelphia.
