SCHNEIDER TO ATLANTA
The Atlanta Thrashers acquired defenseman Mathieu Schneider from the Anaheim Ducks for defenseman Ken Klee and wingers Brad Larsen and Chain Painchaud.
What does it give the Atlanta Thrashers
Schneider adds another quality offensive defenseman and power-play producer for the Thrashers, who already boast sophomore Tobias Enstrom. He will also be looked upon for leadership on the rebuilding Thrashers. Look for Schneider's minutes to go up in Atlanta.
What does it give the Anaheim Ducks
The Ducks, most importantly, shed salary with this move. However, they also receive a decent depth defenseman in Klee and potential 12th or 13th forward in Larsen. Painchaud is a marginal prospect but, overall, the Ducks received quantity and the cap space they badly needed in return for veteran defenseman Schneider.
