SHARKS, 'HAWKS SWAP DEPTH FORWARDS

The San Jose Sharks acquired forward Ben Smith and a conditional seventh-round draft pick in 2017 from the Chicago Blackhawks for forward Andrew Desjardins.

What does it give the San Jose Sharks
Smith is a better penalty killer than Desjardins, and he's a right-handed shooter, so perhaps these are reasons for this deal from a San Jose perspective. Smith is also under contract for 2015-16, while Desjardins is a pending unrestricted free agent.

What does it give the Chicago Blackhawks
Desjardins is a bit bigger, and a bit grittier, than Smith. He can also play both wing and center, so his versatility could help the contending 'Hawks. Because Chicago is deep at center now that {P Antoine Vermette} is on board, look for Desjardins to play left wing in Chi-town.

Fantasy impact
Neither Smith nor Desjardins has a lot of fantasy value, though perhaps Smith may see a bit more ice time with the Sharks. Still, not much to see here.
