RED WINGS LAND VETERAN D ZIDLICKY

The Detroit Red Wings acquired defenseman Marek Zidlicky from the New Jersey Devils for conditional draft picks in 2016.

What does it give the Detroit Red Wings
This is a solid pickup for Detroit, who have lacked right-handed players for a while now. Zidlicky should provide third-pairing depth and also contribute greatly on the team's top power play unit--due to his great point shot. Zidlicky is a short-term solution.

What does it give the New Jersey Devils
This is also a fine move by the Devils at this time. They are guaranteed to land at least a third-round pick here, and that could turn into a second rounder if the Red Wings reach the Stanley Cup finals. That's a good move in return for a 38-year old.

Fantasy impact
For now, Zidlicky should enjoy a fantasy spike playing in Detroit--where he should be a very nice fit. He might not be back with them next season, though, so keep that in mind. A potential loser here could be {P Alexei Marchenko}, Detroit's rookie D-man who may sit to accomodate Zidlicky.
