PAHLSSON TO HAWKS

The Chicago Blackhawks acquired center Samuel Pahlsson, defenseman Logan Stephenson and a conditional fourth-round draft pick from the Anaheim Ducks for defenseman James Wisniewski and center Petri Kontiola.

What does it give the Chicago Blackhawks
Pahlsson is an elite shutdown center that will provide ideal third-line play for the up-and-coming Blackhawks. He slides into the third spot nicely behind captain Jonathan Toews and Dave Bolland down the middle. Pahlsson won't bring a lot of offense but the 'Hawks don't need much offense from him.

What does it give the Anaheim Ducks
Wisniewski comes on board and is part of the Ducks' retooling plan on defense, following the earlier acquisition of Ryan Whitney from Pittsburgh. Like Whitney, Wisniewski's best asset is offense and struggles on defense. Having Chris Pronger and Scott Niedermayer still around should help both blueliners.
