BLUES ACQUIRE PROSPECT ABELTSHAUSER
The St. Louis Blues acquired defenseman Konrad Abeltshauser from the San Jose Sharks for a conditional seventh-round draft pick in 2016.
What does it give the St. Louis Blues
Abeltshauser is a huge physical specimen with an unrefined game (though also with plenty of long-range upside). The big German will turn 23 in September and is entering his third pro campaign. He's still largely a project but perhaps he can put it all together now that he's in the Blues' system.
What does it give the San Jose Sharks
For the Sharks, this deal doesn't provide them with much in terms of assets (they'll likely receive a seventh-round pick in next year's draft if Abeltshauser re-signs with St. Louis, as he's scheduled for restricted free agency). That said, San Jose felt they already had too many defensemen for the AHL.
Fantasy impact
If Abeltshauser ever reaches the NHL for good, it'll be as a big, shutdown defenseman. Therefore, there isn't a lot of fantasy upside here.
