COYOTES GET C GORDON FOR W KORPIKOSKI
The Arizona Coyotes acquired center Boyd Gordon from the Edmonton Oilers for winger Lauri Korpikoski.
What does it give the Arizona Coyotes
This trade helps both clubs. Gordon should slide into the No. 3 center role in Arizona, which should move Kyle Chipchura back to a wing position (replacing Korpikoski). Gordon's cap hit is $500,000 more than Korpikoski but his contract runs out after 2015-16, which was also a factor for the Coyotes here.
What does it give the Edmonton Oilers
Edmonton has an embarassment of riches in terms of young centers, with Connor McDavid joining Ryan Nugent-Hopkins, Leon Draisaitl and Anton Lander, so moving veteran Gordon out makes sense. Korpikoski adds another speed element to the Oil on the wings, and he has more offensive upside than Gordon.
Fantasy impact
Both Gordon and Korpikoski are role players who are not likely to make much of a fantasy impact, despite the change of scenery. The big winners here are Draisaitl and Lander, who may both break camp with Edmonton now. Both have plenty of sleeper fantasy value.
