PANTHERS AND BRUINS SWAP WINGERS
The Florida Panthers acquired winger Reilly Smith and center Marc Savard from the Boston Bruins for winger forward Jimmy Hayes.
What does it give the Florida Panthers
For the Panthers, adding Smith gives them a better scoring option on the wing--though a smaller player than Hayes. The Panthers also acquired Savard in this deal so that they can get to the salary-cap floor, since he is unlikely to ever play again due to concussion issues.
What does it give the Boston Bruins
For the Bruins, they get bigger on the wing here with the addition of Hayes--to go along with the signing of Matt Beleskey as a free agent. Boston traded away Milan Lucic earlier in the off-season but at least got bigger by committee with Hayes and Beleskey now on board.
Fantasy impact
Smith usually played with Patrice Bergeron and Brad Marchand in Boston, so he needs new linemates to produce good results in South Florida. He has sleeper appeal, as does Hayes--who hasn't quite broken out yet as a scorer in the NHL but should feel comfortable playing in Boston (his hometown).
