OILERS ADD BIG LW PATRICK MAROON

The Edmonton Oilers acquired forward Patrick Maroon from the Anaheim Ducks for defenseman Martin Gernat and a fourth-round draft pick in 2016.

What does it give the Edmonton Oilers
In Maroon, the Oilers land a mammoth winger who should get an opportunity to play more in Edmonton than he did with the Ducks. His skating can be an issue, though, so he might not be able to play with most of the Oilers' top forwards.

What does it give the Anaheim Ducks
The Ducks landed two left-wingers on deadline day in Brandon Pirri and Jamie McGinn, so someone had to go. Maroon was the casualty here, and in return Anaheim got back depth defenseman Gernat and a fourth rounder. Not a bad return.

Fantasy impact
Maroon could see some time on the power play, which enhances his fantasy stock. That said, he is not a reliable option because of his lack of consistency at the NHL level. Gernat is still a project, so he should not be on the fantasy radar.
