FLAMES GET RW CHIASSON FROM OTTAWA
The Calgary Flames acquired winger Alex Chiasson from the Ottawa Senators for defenseman Patrick Sieloff.
What does it give the Calgary Flames
In Chiasson, the Flames land a strapping winger who has had difficulty putting up points in the National Hockey League. He did a solid job as a penalty killer and bottom-six forward in Ottawa last season, so he should be a decent addition up front for Calgary, a team without a lot of natural right-wingers on the roster.
What does it give the Ottawa Senators
The Senators decided to trade Chiasson, rather than extend him a qualifying offer. In return, Ottawa gets a physical defenseman who is still looking to round out his game in the 22-year-old Sieloff. He appeared in his first National Hockey League game in '15-16 and may see more time in the big league with the Senators.
Fantasy impact
Fantasy leaguers have been waiting on Chiasson for years, so it may be time to cut the umbelical cord. At most, he is a fantasy dark horse for 2016-17 (mostly due to Calgary's lack of depth at RW). Sieloff has virtually no fantasy upside, aside from his hitting ability and physicality.
