SVOBODA TO DALLAS

The Dallas Stars acquired winger Jaroslav Svoboda from the Carolina Hurricanes for a fourth-round draft pick in 2005.

What does it give the Dallas Stars
The Stars hope Svoboda can find his game again, after a horrendous showing in Carolina since the 2002 Stanley Cup playoffs. He adds size, youth and energy to either wing position in Dallas. However, ice time may still be scarce in Svoboda's new surroundings.

What does it give the Carolina Hurricanes
For the chronically underachieving Svoboda, the Hurricanes did well to land a mid-round draft pick in what is expected to be a very deep draft. Furthermore, Svoboda's departure should give 2004 first-round pick Andrew Ladd an even better shot at cracking the Carolina lineup--whenever NHL hockey resumes.
