VRBATA TO CHICAGO

The Chicago Blackhawks acquired winger Radim Vrbata from the Carolina Hurricanes for future considerations.

What does it give the Chicago Blackhawks
The 'Hawks are more desperate for offensive help at center, but will still take whatever help they can get on the wing. Enter Vrbata, who once upon a time was a great scoring prospect in the Colorado Avalanche organization. He has regressed to the point of being a frequent healthy scratch in Carolina, but should get an opportunity in Chicago. The 24-year-old Vrbata needs to act quickly, however, because the 'Hawks have several winger prospects on the way.

What does it give the Carolina Hurricanes
Vrbata lost any chance of sticking around with the 'Canes when Chad LaRose was recalled and took over third-line duties. Since Carolina is clicking on all cylinders this season, they're doing the right thing by clearing out their underachieving talent (i.e. Pavel Brendl, Vrbata et al). Look for the future considerations coming from the Blackhawks to be a mid-round draft pick in 2006.
