ISBISTER FOR PETRUZALEK
The New York Rangers acquired winger Brad Isbister from the Carolina Hurricanes for forward Jakub Petruzalek and a conditional draft pick in 2008.
What does it give the New York Rangers
Isbister gives the Rangers another experienced winger option, in case they decide to replace Marcel Hossa or Colton Orr. He's also more insurance in case Jed Ortmeyer doesn't make it back from his bout with a pulmonary embolism. For now, expect Isbister to move from Lowell to Hartford within the AHL.
What does it give the Carolina Hurricanes
Petruzalek is an intriguing prospect, albeit somewhat of a longshot in terms of his NHL future. However, 'Canes GM Jim Rutherford is taking a calculated gamble, especially since Isbister failed to make his squad in training camp and had little chance of making it in Carolina.
