BELANGER FOR VASICEK

The Nashville Predators acquired center Eric Belanger from the Carolina Hurricanes for center Josef Vasicek.

What does it give the Nashville Predators
In Belanger, the Predators have added a quality third-line pivot. He's an upgrade over both Scott Nichol and Vernon Fiddler, who were being used in that role in recent weeks--while Vasicek skated on the fourth line. Belanger should mesh well with Nashville, since he plays a sound two-way game. He's expected to skate between Scott Hartnell and Alexander Radulov, which should help Belanger put up points with his new team.

What does it give the Carolina Hurricanes
The Hurricanes decided they couldn't live without Vasicek, so they re-acquired him for Belanger. Vasicek is more versatile than Belanger, since he can also line up at left wing. However, look for 'The Condor' to line up as the center on the third line with the 'Canes. Ironically, he may get a chance to skate alongside right wing Scott Walker, who was dealt to Carolina for Vasicek last summer.
